Fall decorating is getting a lot bigger in the Fresno area.
What used to mean a few pumpkins near the front door has turned into elaborate seasonal displays covering entire porches, walkways and entryways. And for homeowners who want the full look without doing all the work themselves, local businesses are stepping in.
From a few pumpkins to a full porch transformation
Several Fresno-area businesses are now offering professional pumpkin and porch-styling services. They deliver pumpkins, arrange the displays and, in some cases, return afterward to handle cleanup.
Among the local businesses serving the area are The Porch Co., Sweet Thistle Farms and Mendonca Pumpkin Co.
The Porch Co., operated by Emery and Madison Garcia, is in its second year. After starting with about 35 customers, the business expects to serve at least 100 customers this year.
Their displays can include a wide variety of pumpkins, from small heirloom varieties to pumpkins weighing around 100 pounds.
Fresno-area pumpkin packages can cost up to $1,400
For homeowners looking for a professionally designed display, prices can vary significantly.
Pumpkin packages in the greater Fresno area generally range from $150 to $1,400, depending on the size and amount of decoration.
Some providers also offer additional seasonal items such as:
- Hay bales
- Mums and flowers
- Corn stalks
- Other fall plants
- Professional porch design
That means homeowners can essentially hand over their porch and let someone else create the entire fall display.
Social media is helping fuel the trend
Local pumpkin businesses say social media has played a major role in growing demand.
Mendonca Pumpkin Co., which serves Fresno and Tulare counties, expects to provide pumpkins to nearly 250 homes this year. The business grows its own pumpkins on five acres in Tulare County.
Its social media presence has also grown substantially, helping more homeowners discover the service.
Sweet Thistle Farms offers another option, allowing customers either to purchase pumpkins and decorate themselves or have the farm help create the display.
Why are Fresno homeowners paying for the service?
For some customers, it isn’t simply about having the biggest or most impressive porch.
It’s about convenience.
Instead of shopping for dozens of pumpkins, arranging them, adding flowers and hay bales, and eventually figuring out what to do with everything afterward, professional porch stylists handle much of the process.
For homeowners who enjoy seasonal decorating but don’t have the time to build the display themselves, that convenience can be part of the appeal.
A Fresno fall trend that’s getting bigger
The pumpkin-porch trend shows how seasonal decorating is becoming a business opportunity for local growers, designers and small companies.
With social media putting elaborate displays in front of thousands of potential customers, Fresno-area homeowners now have another option for celebrating fall: skip the pumpkin patch shopping trip and bring the pumpkin patch home. 🎃
