Supervisors Review Rural Broadband Expansion Plan

A plan to extend high-speed internet into underserved corners of Fresno County is moving through review, with supervisors weighing how to pair local effort with state and federal broadband dollars. Large stretches of the rural county still lack reliable service.

Advocates say dependable internet is no longer optional for schoolwork, telehealth, and running a small farm or business. The proposal would map coverage gaps and prioritize areas where students and clinics are hit hardest.

County staff cautioned that building rural networks is slow and costly, and that partnerships with providers will be essential. Still, officials called the effort overdue.
