Fresno officials are reviewing an expanded street-repair program that would prioritize older residential neighborhoods where pavement has gone years without resurfacing. Under the draft approach, streets would be ranked by condition and daily traffic, with the worst-rated blocks moving to the front of the queue.
Residents in several central and southeast neighborhoods have long complained that repair crews seem to focus on major corridors while side streets crumble. City engineers say a data-driven ranking would make the process more transparent and easier for the public to follow online.
Funding remains the open question. Public-works staff have suggested pairing local dollars with state transportation grants to stretch the budget, but council members want a clearer estimate of annual costs before signing off. A follow-up presentation is expected in the coming weeks.
